On 28 October 2026 the five WPL franchises meet in Kochi for the WPL auction 2026 to finish their squads. Some buys will make sense. Some will leave your group chat asking, "Who approved that?"

The next day it's your turn. From 29 October, AuctionRoom's WPL auction game will let you and your friends run the auction all over again, with every player in the final WPL 2027 squads (retained and sold) up for grabs. Everyone gets the same purse and nobody starts with retentions. You'll build your squad from scratch, and it will score fantasy points from every real match of the WPL 2027 season, from 14 January to 7 February.

What is the AuctionRoom WPL auction game?

AuctionRoom is a social auction game for cricket fans. One person hosts a room, friends join from their own phones, and players come up one at a time for everyone to bid on. Every manager has the same purse and the same squad limit, so you can't just sign every big name. You have to pick your moments.

The real auction fills only 27 open slots around 63 retained players. Yours will start from a blank sheet: every player in the WPL 2027 pool is available, and every team can be rebuilt. This time you set the prices.

How a WPL auction works on AuctionRoom

1. The host creates the room. Tap Create and follow the wizard: Name → Player Pool → Roster & Budget → Mid-Season Auction → Captain/VC → Top Scorers → Scoring Start. You pick the WPL 2027 season, set a purse per team and a maximum squad size, and can remove players from the pool before the auction starts.
2. Friends join with a code. Share the invite code or link, or tap the WhatsApp button to send it straight to your group. Friends sign in and join with the code. Each participant runs one team, and the host can run a team too. You need at least two teams to start.
3. Prep your targets. Before bidding opens, everyone can star the players they want in the Auction Preparation panel. Only you can see your stars.
4. Bid player by player. Players come up one at a time in random order. The player banner shows team, role, nationality and fantasy history. Every player opens at a base price set by the tournament.
5. Re-auction the unsold. Players nobody bids on go into a re-auction at the end with a lower base price. Managers nominate the ones they still want, and only those come back up.
6. Pick Captain and Vice-Captain. Once the auction is done, each manager names a Captain (2× points) and a Vice-Captain (1.5× points). The multipliers apply only to Starting XI players, and depending on the room's settings, you may be able to change your Captain or Vice-Captain during the season.

How bidding works: Verbal bidding

WPL rooms use Verbal bidding. Get together at a hostel, an office or a friend's place, or jump on a call. Everyone calls out bids like a real auction table, and the host records each sale. If someone misheard a bid, the host can undo the last sale.

Rules: squad and purse basics

These rules apply in every AuctionRoom auction (full details on the rules page):

• Same purse for everyone. The host sets one budget per team at the start.
• You can't overspend. No team can bid more than its remaining budget, and the host can see every team's balance throughout.
• Squad cap. Once a team reaches the maximum squad size, it's locked and can't win more players. The pool is about 90 players, so 5 teams, one per franchise, works best, with squads of about 16.
• Top Scorers (optional). If the host sets a starting XI size, only your top scorers count towards your total.
• Live sale feed. The "Last 4 Sold" panel shows who bought whom, and for how much, as it happens.

Strategy for your WPL auction game

• Watch Kochi closely. Note which sold players went for big money and which came cheap. Use it, but the franchises' purses were shaped by retentions and yours won't be.
• Don't blow half your purse on the first marquee name. Value can turn up late.
• Budget for the re-auction. Good players often go unsold the first time round in your room and come back cheaper.
• Pick your Captain before you bid. A dependable all-rounder at 2× can be worth more than a big-name batter you overpaid for.

When to run it

The sweet spot is between 29 October and the first ball on 14 January 2027. Squads will be final and the pool set, and your group will have weeks to argue about who got the steal of the auction. Then follow your squad's points until the 7 February final.
